Living costs have been calculated for each Florida county. The total priceÊlevelÊindex is generally highest in the coastal counties from Brevard and Pinellas counties south. To a great extent this is due to higher housing and service costs in these counties than elsewhere in the state. Health costs are particularly high there. Food is often cheaper in Florida's more populated counties than in its lightly populated rural ones. Overall, Florida's cost of living is close to the national average. It is higher than the national average in south Florida, but lower in the northern part of the state.
